It is easy for Christians to give God praise during the good times. However, we are not told to give God glory, praise and honour only in good times. We are to give God glory, praise and honour at all times.
It is not an option but it is something we have to learn. Paul said he had to learn contentment. We also must learn this.
How can a Christian be content in seemingly bad times? By recognizing that all things come from the Lord, whether we might perceive them as good or evil. Job 2:10
God works all things together for good. God does not just work the good things, but He also works the seemingly bad things for the good of those who love Him. He does this because He has called them according to His purpose, which is to conform them to the image of His Son Jesus Christ. Romans 8:28-30
Therefore, just as God the Father ordained seemingly bad things in the life of His Son, He also ordains and brings to pass seemingly bad things in the life of His children, to make them like His only begotten Son.
Take the most wicked sin that ever took place: the murder of Jesus Christ. This was done by wicked men, sinful men, doing evil. God ordained it and determined it and brought it to come to pass. Acts 2:23 (foreknowledge is not looking through time to see what would happen, but is actually determining ahead of time what would happen). Acts 4:28
God also predestines and determines what will take place in lives of His children. Ephesians 1:11
So then, the question isn't 'why did this happen', but 'will I trust that the Lord is working even this thing for my good?'
When we have this Biblical perspective of our trials we will find comfort in knowing that God meant even this for our good. This is why Christians have peace that transcends understanding. It is because their trust is in God the Father through Jesus the Son, by the working of the Holy Spirit in their hearts and minds.
